Dear Parents, Welcome to Grade5!! I am looking forward to a great year. Our gym days are going to be on Tuesday and Wednesday this year. Thank you for sending in the summer work. I am in the process of correcting them and will return them to the children asap. This year as I have for the past 2 years I will be using a binder for the children's work. Every other Friday corrected work will come home to you for you to go over with your child. If a test is given in that time and it is a poor grade it will go home for you to see immediately. After you have seen the work I ask that you sign the cover sheet in the binder and return it to me. The work remains in the binder until the end of the trimester. Please look over the agendas every night. Homework will be written in as well as test announcements. Spelling lists will go home with the children. Since they are coordinated with the Reading stories it may not always be every Monday. Math homework is to be done in the Math notebook. Please feel free to call me , send a note,or e-mail if there is a problem. I am really trying to become better on the computer so if you could be a little patient with me!! God Bless, Mrs Mazzie |

Dear Parents, We are well into February and I am hoping as I am sure you all are that our weather pattern is behind us. Thank you to all that were able to make it to the " Bullying Skits". The kids really enjoyed doing them. We will do more " Reader's Theater" as the year goes on. I will try to arrange a night when you can come in to see them towards the end of the year. We have started studying the Revolutionary War and have quite a few projects to do. The book report I had originally set a date for February 17th. If anyone has trouble finishing their book because it is a long book they may turn it in on the Monday after vacation. Thank you for all that you do and God Bless. Mrs. Mazzie |

Dear parents, It is hard to believe that we are in the month of March. the year is just flying by. The recent biographies and President reports were outstanding. The children seemed to really enjoy presenting and asking each other questions. We are having an extra reading book. The first one will be a book for the boys and a different one for the girls. The boys will read "Daniel and the Seige of Boston", the girl's "The Secret School". I had enough copies that I had purchased through Scholastic so the class is all set. We are also doing a Literature Circle after we finish these two books. This book I ordered from Amazon. The children can purchase their own copy when they come in. The cost will be $4.50 each. I think they will really enjoy this book. We are going to set it up like a book club with lots of discussions. I am looking forward to it. I also purchased 2 maps for them to work on one of the countries of the world and the other a map of the continents. I think they will enjoy these too! We have a lot to do until the end of the year, they will be very busy. Have a great Spring!! God Bless, Mrs. Mazzie

Dear Parents, Happy New Year!! My apologies, I wrote both a Thanksgiving and a Christmas message to all of you but apparently I also created a new site for myself''! ' Imagine that, I didn't even know I knew how to do this! We are starting a new unit in Social Studies on the Middle Colonies and in Science we will be working on plants. Next week is " Peace Week" here at St. Rose. The 5th grade will be doing a series of skits on "Bullying "and ways to help each other deal with it. The children are very excited. We have 4 troupes that will be traveling throughout the school. We will also be putting them on within the classroom. I hope they turn out as well as I expect because the class has worked very hard on them. Please contact me with any issues or problems and I will address them right away. Hope your 2011 is healthy and happy. God Bless Mrs. Mazzie
